Finding the Model Number of Sound Blaster Products

Finding the Model Number of Sound Blaster Products
Keywords / Key Phrases: Sound Blaster, sound, driver, sound driver, OEM, model number

Summary:

It is recommended that you try Creative's AutoUpdate service (Software AutoUpdate) which can be found on your product page under the Latest Downloads list. Software AutoUpdate automatically detects updates for your Creative products currently installed or connected to your PC.

If the Software AutoUpdate fails to detect or recognize your Sound Blaster card, you can manually identify the card based on its model number, and then search for available driver download.

Identifying the product model number:

Most Sound Blaster cards have a CT or SB number printed in white on the front of the card as shown below. In many cases, this number is actually the model number of the card. In other cases, the actual model number is made up of the first two digits of the white CT number on the front and the first two digits of the black revision number stamped on the back of the card e.g. the card below in images 1(front of card) and 2 (back of card) has the model number CT4811.

In certain cases, the card does not have a model number and can be identified by the number on the chipset of the card e.g. the card in image 3 below has the number 1371. This is very common for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) products.

For our newer Sound Blaster cards, the model number is contained within the serial number found on the card. This can be found by reading the 4 digits immediately following SB in the serial number. For example, the model number of a card which bears the serial number MASB0886878R00405Q would be SB0886.

OEM Sound Blaster cards:

If your Creative product came pre-installed or distributed with your computer system, it is likely that you have an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) product. OEM products are often specifically customized per PC manufacturer's request. Therefore the PC manufacturer is the primary source for support and warranty requests regarding the OEM product.

In some cases, OEM drivers can be found on our site for a limited number of products. However, unless a Knowledge Base article or driver listing states it is for your specific OEM product, you should always contact your original supplier for all hardware, driver, and other technical issues.
